Celebration of the International Year of the Potato 2008

On the 22nd of October 2008, UTM got together to celebrate the International Year of the Potato as declared by the UN as part of their FAO program.
The mission of the International Year of the Potato was to create a consciousness of the importance of the potato as a source of nutrition in developing nations and to promote research and development in the systems of production of the potato with the goal of contributing to the fulfillment of the millennium objectives of the UN.
In this sense, UTM through the institute of agro industry and the food science major organized an event in which they led a series of talks related to the importance of the potato and in which there was also a demonstration of products whose main material is the potato that were made by students of the food science major.
The International Year of the Potato event had the goal of highlighting this important crop and source of nutrition, emphasizing its biological and nutritional attributes and promoting its production, manufacture and commercialization.
